ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY LANGUAGE SCHOOLS

Learning community languages together

Home: Welcome

About  ACLS

The Association of Community Language Schools (ACLS) is a peak body association governed by a committee of representatives from diverse multicultural communities. Our mission is to support the teaching, promotion, and maintenance of community languages and cultures in New South Wales.
Since we were established in 1975 as the Illawarra Ethnic Parents and Teachers Association, we have been supporting and building the capacity of multicultural communities to preserve their heritage languages and cultures.

With 52 member organizations teaching 28 community languages, we are dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment that enhances educational practices and supports the vibrant preservation of diverse languages and cultures.

What We Do

We support multicultural communities to maintain their heritage language and culture by providing guidance and support on setting up and running a community language school,  applying for funding from the NSW Department of Education's Community Languages Schools Program, planning for student learning, and implementing effective teaching and learning strategies to engage and interest students of all ages, and much more!

We offer our members free professional learning workshops as well as one-on-one support. Our members also benefit from being able to purchase discounted Public Liability Insurance and Voluntary Workers Insurance through our association's umbrella policy.

Get in touch with us today and find out how we can help you.

In the spirit of reconciliation, ACLS acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
