NEPALI

Nepali is the official language of Nepal and a member of the Indo-Aryan language family. Written in the Devanagari script, Nepali has a long literary history and serves as a common language across Nepal’s diverse ethnic groups. It is also spoken by communities in India, Bhutan, and around the world. In Australia, Nepali has become one of the fastest-growing community languages, reflecting the increasing number of people of Nepalese heritage. In New South Wales (NSW), Nepali is widely spoken within homes, cultural organisations, and community events. According to recent census data, over 30,000 people in NSW speak Nepali at home, with numbers continuing to rise each year.
